I have found that each day I am bombarded with a common theme...BYE SUMMER! UGHHHHH there are posts of moms sending their kids back to school and advertisements showcasing the school supply sales. What about the stories in Michael's of the Christmas displays going up, I mean what is that!! Come on!!
Now I totally understand that for many areas school is back in session but here is my take away on it. Seeing all those images and such doesn't mean you have to disregard the rest of the summer, to me warm weather and long days still count.
If you are like me and are sending your kiddies back to school after Labor Day, here are some tips to keep summer full and fun and get out of your own head. It's still warm people!!
Go For It:
Look at those stories of families preparing for the new school year BUT take one tip from them and implement it. For instance organize your mudroom, clear out the stuff that's been stashed in the corner. I guarantee when you clean that space you will find a winter glove or two.
Go on your Target, Amazon or Walmart App:
Set a designated time aside with your kids school supply list, order it all and forget about it.
Everyone Grocery Shops:
Choose what you know you will definitely use later down the road and stock pile it. So if chicken is on sale and that is something you know you can throw in the crock pot one day for dinner stock your freezer. While you're at it get the extra jars of crock pot sauce to make life easier. Shelf it and forget it, then you have a home cooked meal with out much effort.
Bulk Meal Prep:
If you are like me and cook almost every meal, take one day and double or triple your breakfast that day, freeze and store. The couple days later bulk cook your dinner, freeze and store that. Soon you will be ready for the mass chaos that will undoubtedly ensure when the school year actually starts.
The FUN STUFF:
I feel like Summer is like a plant, "Just add water and it will continue to grow!" Plan things to do with your family. Of course there will be days at home but see what is going on in your community. Even if the kids are back to school there are still things going on like Live Music in your town or a Food Truck night. Even if you are stuck at home make it fun, set up the sprinkler, lay out a picnic blanket or maybe do an outdoor movie night. Find the little things that make your summer last longer than the advertisements tell us.
It isn't over, enjoy the sunshine, the long days, warm nights and the hum of the crickets.
Happy Summer People!
Make those Little Moments into Memories!

Steph
